A lifelong angler at the helm
Captain Tim has been fishing since he could walk, starting on various inland lakes and rivers. Tim grew up on Dutchman Lake, where he spent every waking moment catching pan fish through summer, winter, spring and fall.
After high school, he went to work in the tool & die trade — but many nights after work were still spent chasing steelhead and salmon on the Grand River. At age 20, Tim bought his first Big Lake fishing boat and has been fishing Lake Michigan ever since. In 2013, he earned the rank of Captain so he could share his love of fishing with others.
Tim is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed charter captain, holding an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV, or “six-pack”) license, and meets every safety, training and certification requirement that license carries.
Coast Guard licensed, trained and equipped
Every charter aboard the Double Down is led by a licensed captain who meets the U.S. Coast Guard's full slate of safety, medical and training requirements.
U.S. Coast Guard Licensed
Captain Tim holds a USCG Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) license — commonly known as a “six-pack” license — authorizing him to carry paying passengers on Lake Michigan.
Medical & Drug Testing
Maintaining a Coast Guard captain's license requires passing a physical fitness exam and participating in an approved random drug testing program.
CPR, First Aid & AED Certified
Captain Tim keeps current CPR, First Aid and AED training so the crew is prepared to respond in an emergency.
Vessel Safety Compliant
The Double Down carries all Coast Guard–required safety equipment — life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers and more — and is kept current on required safety inspections.

Perfectly Positioned
The port of Muskegon is centrally located between Grand Haven and Whitehall, giving us the flexibility to fish any of the three ports depending on the day's fishing reports.
More Than a Fishing Trip
The Lake Express car ferry is within walking distance — on any given day you can watch it make one of three trips to Wisconsin. From Muskegon Lake, we'll also cruise past the USS Silversides, a World War II submarine that earned twelve battle stars for service. After a full day on the water, the area's restaurants make for a great way to cap off the trip.
