What to bring for your trip
Tackle, bait and cleaning your catch are all handled by the crew — here's what to bring so you're ready for a full day on the water.
Required
- A valid Michigan fishing license for each angler age 17 or older — the captain is not able to provide these, so please purchase yours before you arrive at the dock
- Both annual and short-term (daily) licenses are available, in resident and non-resident versions
- Buy online, through the DNR Hunt Fish app, or at any Michigan DNR license retailer (many bait & tackle and sporting goods stores sell them)
- Anglers under 17 can fish without a license
Buy or learn more about Michigan fishing licenses on the DNR website →
Dress for the Lake
- Layers — mornings run cold on Lake Michigan even in summer
- Non-marking, closed-toe shoes with good grip
- Polarized sunglasses & a hat
- Sunscreen
- Light rain gear, just in case
Comfort On Board
- A motion sickness remedy if you're prone to it, taken before you leave the dock
- Snacks & drinks (no glass bottles on board)
- Any personal medications
After Your Trip
- Cash for your deposit balance & a tip for the crew
- A cooler with ice for the ride home
- Camera or phone for photos with your catch
